THE Chapungu Sculpture Park, a renowned haven of Zimbabwean stone sculptures, will host a captivating event on October 27.

Aptly titled “Tones and Stones,” this celebration will feature a live musical performance and a culinary showcase.

The Zimspiration Choir, celebrated for their patriotic anthem “Nyika Yedu” featuring Henry Olonga, will grace the event as the headline act.

Under the masterful direction of Kundisai Mtero and accompanied by the skilled pianist Tinashe Jera, Zimspiration are expected to deliver a mesmerising performance. Renowned soloists Mitchel Mvundura, Munashe Chavhunduka, Rodgers Gwatidzo and Soothe Muzic will also enchant the audience with their vocal artistry. The “Tones and Stones” event promises a diverse line-up of talented performers. African Voice, Worae in Motion, Mimhanzi, Zicky Wacho, The Basics and Evicted will also take the stage, showcasing their unique musical styles.

A classical ensemble featuring pianists Guncha Hojanepesova and Mariane Beck-Volz, along with flautist Gulnara Machingura, will add panache to proceedings. Renowned violinist Sarah Pierce will further enrich the musical experience.

Celebrity chef DeAnkara, a culinary virtuoso specialising in fusion cuisine, will guide attendees on a gastronomic journey through a serene setting. Marcey Mushore, a director at Chapungu, expressed pride in the exhibition park’s return to its former glory.

“At Chapungu, we are back to the golden glory days. This year has been filled with numerous events,” Mushore said.

Chapungu was founded by the late Roy Guthrie in 1980 and was one of the best suppliers of top-end Zimbabwean Shona sculpture.

The sculpture park was known for its international exhibitions which attracted sculpture enthusiasts from far and wide.

Through Chapungu, Guthrie pioneered the promotion of Zimbabwe stone sculpture worldwide and established this important permanent collection of art.

On exhibition at Chapungu are works by such prominent artists as Nicholas Mukomberanwa, Henry Munyaradzi, Sylvester Mubayi, Joseph Ndandarika, Boira Mteki, Bernard Matemera and John Takawira.
