Urban grooves musicians have come together to produce a video, “Prayer for Africa”, that was inspired by the xenophobic attacks that took place in South Africa.
The video features musicians Goodchild, Cindy Munyavi, Russo, Xtra Large, Mudiwa Hood, Chenai, Ngonie Kambarami, Leonard Mapfumo, Nesto, Trey XL and Your Highness.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Ngoni Kambarami said the video was supposed to be released when the attacks started but was delayed due to financial constraints.
“We wanted to produce the video when the xenophobic attacks started but we failed due to financial constraints. Nevertheless, we are happy that we managed to come up with the video and our main aim is to promote peace across Africa,” he said.
Cindy said as musicians they felt the need to preach peace after the xenophobia attacks.
“We decided to come in solidarity against what was going on in Africa, to be specific South Africa.
“We felt it was our duty as artistes to send the message to the victims of the xenophobic attacks and the families of the deceased that we were together with them during the difficult times,” she said.
Nesto also added that he feels Africans have to treat each other with love.
“The situation that happened in KwaZulu Natal affected everyone and I just feel as Africans we have to treat each other with love,” he said.
The touching video starts with a clip of former South African President Nelson Mandela proclaiming: “It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it. People must dedicate their time and effort to improve the conditions within their own community.”
A number of musicians locally and across the globe took it upon themselves to castigate the attacks on foreign nationals.
