Musicians promise memorable Heroes’ Gala

Mupandawana will tomorrow liven up when Zimbabwean musical heavyweights invade the growth point with their acts.

The musical event is expected to attract more than 25 000 people and between 30 and 50 local and foreign artistes.

According to media reports, foreign artistes include groups from Namibia and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in addition to the best local artistes. From Namibia a group called Ndilimani and Reo Sounds from DRC will grace the show.

Local musicians such as Jeys Marabini, Derrick Majaivana, Sandra Ndebele, and Iyasa among others are the musicians that will be at the occasion.

In separate interviews yesterday the musicians said Gutu would have the opportunity to see new acts .
Nkululeko Dube director of Iyasa, who are fresh from their European tour, said this would be the first time for them to perform after their tour.

“We arrived from our tour in Europe on Tuesday and Zimbabweans will have the chance to see us on stage for the first time after the tour. We promise to give them a night to remember,” he said.

Dube said Iyasa would travel with 18 members and had new routines they wanted to share with fans during the show.

“We do not repeat routines at every gala, we have a different routine for our fans. We also have new costumes that we shall showcase during the 20 minute slot we will be given,” he said.

Jeys Marabini said Kozekulunge had prepared well for the gala  and promised a polished performance.

He urged people in Gutu and Mupandawana to come in their numbers to celebrate their National Heroes.

“It is going to be a show they will remember for a long time. We have prepared well for it and I will play songs from the new album. We shall remember our heroes in style, because of their sacrifices we can enjoy ourselves in a free Zimbabwe,” said Jeys.

He said those who would not make it to Mupandawana Growth Point should tune into ZBCtv and be part of the festivities.

Derrick Majaivana said he would take fans down memory lane and sing his father’s songs.

He said his 10 minute set would include the title track from his upcoming album, Angekengivume.

“People in Mupandawana will have the time of their lives. I will sing songs from my father like Umoya wami, Siyay’wela ingulukuthela and Angekengivume from my upcoming album,” said Majaivana.

He said he would be accompanied by a nine-member band.

Alick Macheso, Peter Moyo, Blessing Shumba, LMG Choir, Amavhithikazi, Mbare Chimurenga, Mbungo Stars, Uncle Jahunda, Dembo Brothers, Sebastian Magacha, Mercy Mutsvene, Kapfupi, Chiwoniso Maraire, Progress Chipfumo, Comrade Chinx and Jah Prayzah are some of the artistes expected to peform at the gala.
