BARBOURFIELDS turned into Scottland’s playground yesterday as the star-studded visitors brushed aside Chicken Inn with a classy 2-0 victory in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League showdown.
Inspired by veteran talisman Knowledge Musona and his younger brother Walter Musona, Scottland FC produced a football masterclass that left the Gamecocks chasing shadows for most of the afternoon.
From the first whistle, Scottland looked hungry, aggressive and full of confidence as they camped inside Chicken Inn’s half and forced three early corner kicks.
Chicken Inn simply had no answers.
The breakthrough finally came in the 22nd minute when Knowledge Musona showed his class with a cool finish after a clever cutback from Moses Shidolo.
The former Warriors captain nearly grabbed another moments later, but Chicken Inn goalkeeper Taimon Mvula pulled off a string of brilliant saves to keep the hosts alive.
Scottland, however, refused to slow down.
Khama Billiat pulled the strings in midfield while Panashe Mutimbanyoka and Walter tormented the Chicken Inn defence with wave after wave of attacks.
The second goal arrived in the 60th minute and it was no surprise that Walter was the man to deliver the killer blow, calmly slotting home after another slick attacking move.
Scottland almost turned the match into a rout when Thwala Kwakhe smashed a thunderous effort against the crossbar as Chicken Inn’s defence crumbled under pressure.
“As a team, I think we started well. We created a lot of chances,” said Scottland head coach Norman Mapeza whose side is set to tàke on CAPS United in their next fixture.
For Chicken Inn, it was a nightmare afternoon in front of their own fans.
“It was really a bad day in the office. I think everyone could see we were playing a really quality side,” said Chicken Inn gaffer Tonderayi Ndiraya.
“In the first five to 10 minutes, we looked sharp but it all happened that we crashed.”
The Chicken Inn head coach could not hide his frustration saying their attack lacked bite, their midfield was overrun and defensively they looked shaky throughout the encounter.
Scottland’s experienced stars simply ran the show, producing one of their most complete performances of the season and sending a strong warning to their title rivals. — @FungaiMuderere
