WALTER MUSONA came, saw and conquered, powering Simba Bhora to achieve the seemingly impossible mission.
He made a gamble to end his union with FC Platinum, just to let fate take charge of his destiny.
Many struggled to make peace with his decision and others were quick to suggest that the 28-year-old was going to regret the day he joined the Shamva side.
To some extent, it made no sense since Simba Bhora had spent the better part of their maiden season flirting with relegation and finished 12th on the league table.
Musona was tasked to lead the ship upon his arrival and like a real leader, he lived up to expectations.
And, he was even rewarded for his passion by the team’s director, Brighton Ushendibaba with a Mercedes Benz just after the restart.
The fortunes of Simba Bhora changes quickly after a long and bumpy road following his arrival.
It is inevitable that FC Platinum who are visiting Wadzanai this Saturday will give Musona and his men a guard of honour.
Simba Bhora visisted Arenel Movers on Wednesday needing just a point to win the championship, and Musona stepped up and struck the solitary goal that made them the 2024 Castle Lager Premiership champions.
That strike took his season’s goal tally to 10 with two games to play before the end of the campaign.
Musona has also registered 15 assists which makes him the team’s best player in this campaign by a considerable distance.
Simba Bhora chief striker, Tymon Machope has recorded 11 times.
Their milestone means Musona has now won the championship twice in three seasons.
And, he is also being tipped to by many to take home the Castle Lager Premiership Soccer Star of The Year gong, which will also be his second in three season should he win the polls.
Musona was the difference when FC Platinum completed a four-peat three seasons ago.
Musona hailed his teammates for fighting as a unit.
“This championship is for the Shamva community, we have won it because of their support and we are not going to stop giving back what we owe.
“It was not easy for us to put the circle together, our coaches, sponsors and leadership played a key role for us to celebrate this success today.
“I also want to thank my teammates for all the hard work and dedication, winning the championship is not an event, you have to avoid injuries and many things to maintain the balance,” said Musona.
Bragging rights are at stake when Simba Bhora hosts FC Platinum at Wadzanai this Saturday.
The hosts will be playing at their fortress for the first time as champions, while Norman Mapeza’s men will be out to end Simba Bhora unbeaten record at home.
