Mutambara to stay put in Government

The MDC formation will hold its watershed congress in Harare next week and provincial nominations have already indicated that Prof Mutambara faces the boot at party level.

But the party’s secretary-general, Professor Welshman Ncube, who has clinched nomination for the presidency from most of the provinces, said Prof Mutambara would retain his post in Government.

He said there was no law that compelled MDC to recall Prof Mutambara even if he is removed from leading the party.
“There is no truth in the rumours, no one will be recalled. There is no such thing as recalling,” said Prof Ncube.

“The party deployed him to that post because we believe he is a capable leader and that position has not changed. I do not even think that matter will be deliberated at congress because it is an issue that should be dealt with by the party’s standing committee.

At the moment, the party’s position is that we have no reason to redeploy anyone in Government.”
Prof Ncube said Prof Mutambara would continue as Deputy Prime Minister until the Global Political Agreement (GPA) lapses.

“I do not see a reason why he should not continue, because he has served the party well in that post,” he said.  -The Sunday Mail
