MUTARE City Council has adopted the 2026 bugdet during its full council meeting held at Civic Centre offices today.
The budget now awaits the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works approval.
Major highlights of the budget include the reintroduction of the Education Levy that will assist the local authority in its ongoing quest to reduce schools shortage in the eastern border city.
Major road rehabilitation, revambpng of water and sewer systems, and other infrastructure development works are also covered under the budget.
To ensure broad-based participation and inclusivity, the City Of Mutare employed multiple consultation platforms, including door-to-door engagements, newspaper notices in The Herald and The Manica Post, radio broadcasts on Diamond FM, distribution of both digital and physical questionnaires, as well as physical meetings with sector-specific and ward-based stakeholder groups.
The United Mutare Residents and Ratepayers Trust (UMRRT) facilitated the distribution of the questionnaires following the training of enumerators.
The WhatsApp platform and the Chabot were also accessible to all stakeholders and the tariff as well as other key City of Mutare reports could be accessed through these platforms.
The city also held road shows in trying to encourage citizen participation.
