THOUSANDS of scout movement members from different parts of the country will descend on Chinziwa Scouts Park, just outside Mutare, for this year’s national scouts’ jamboree.
The four-day camp runs from next Friday to August 12.
The scouts’ jamboree is an annual fete during which members of the scouting movement mix, share experiences and skills.
Manicaland Scouts Association chairperson Mr Ernest Mungwari confirmed the development.
Mr Mungwari urged all scouts in Manicaland to turn out for the event in their numbers.
“As Manicaland, we are going to host this year’s national scouts jamboree starting on August 8 and will last the next four days thereafter. We pride ourselves in promoting local tourism by bringing Zimbabweans from different parts of the country to the majestic Bvumba terrain.
“We also want to take this opportunity to urge youths to join the Scouts’ Movement. In fact, this is the largest youth movement in the world and this should also be reflected in Zimbabwe. We also want to urge our members to turn out for this jamboree in their numbers and show the rest of the country that the movement is still vibrant in Manicaland.”
The national scouts’ jamboree was last held in Kariba in 2000 and the event has not been held due to challenges the movement was facing.
Manicaland has tremendously revived the scout movement with the latest success at provincial level being the recent three months tour of the first black Zimbabwean to Kinderstage International Scout Park in Switzerland.
Prior to young Primrose Marowa’s trip to Kinderstage International Scout park in Switzerland, no Zimbabwean had ever successfully applied for a place at the prestigious scouts park which is situated near the International Scouts Movement headquarters.
