Mutare mourns ex-mayoress Jahwi, Cllr Maita

MUTARE has been plunged into mourning following the passing on of the city’s first black mayoress, Mrs Shingirai Sarah Jahwi and Ward Three councillor, Councillor Tichaenzana Maita over the weekend.
The pair’s passing on Saturday has been described as, not only a blow to their respective families, but the entire Mutare community.
A source said Mrs Jahwi is expected to be laid to rest on Wednesday.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of Mrs Jahwi, who was Mutare’s first mayoress. Mourners are gathered at Number 21, Kingfisher in Greenside. She is expected to be laid to rest on Wednesday. More details will be provided in due course,” said the source.
In their condolence message, City of Mutare said Councillor Maita will be fondly remembered for his invaluable contribution and commitment to both Ward Three and Mutare’s development.
“The passing on of Councillor Maita has left a huge void in our community. His contribution to City of Mutare’s policy formulation was invaluable and his commitment to the Ward Three residents will be fondly remembered. We stand in solidarity with the Maita family during this difficult time and honour the legacy pf a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to the betterment of our city,” reads the message.
Councillor Maita is expected to be laid to rest at Dangamvura Cemetery this afternoon.
