MUTARE-BASED Afro-traditional singer, Tawanda “WaCharie” Chari, says collaborations have power in helping improve musical careers.
The singer and producer, whose music is hinged on rich content, says his music talks about social ills.
“My music talks about social ills, love, life and everything else in between, which is influenced by my love for people, traditions and every interaction.
“I have worked with several artists doing collaborations such as Forward Mazuruse, Audinence Kuimba, South Africa-based Maxie SetApart, Kim AfroPoetic Mind and hip hop artist Will B, among others, on previous projects.
“Some of the songs include Ndide ft AfroPoetic Mind, Mhosva Irudo ft Maxie SetApart, Andina Inzwi ft Audinence Kuimba, Shangu ft Forward Mazuruse and Afamba Apota ft Romaine and COCO (France).
“This has boosted my career.
“Having been in the Mutare area, people think music is found in Harare but we have talent outside the capital city.”
He added:
“The giants in the music industry on both local and international turfs, such as the late Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, and the Congolese crooner Lokua Kanza, inspired me.
“I have released Bumharutsva (2018) and Tangerima (2019) before I released a 4-track EP titled Dzeupenyu: Life Stories in 2020.”
He recently launched his third album titled Chidzorogodo.
“The new stuff is a 12 track album which encourages positivity in communities.
“Some of the songs include Musikanzwa, Gangaidza, Chidzorogodo and Ndambakuudzwa.
“Chidzorogodo is a term used to describe a person who thinks everything is about them.”
