Mutare speaks on Mhere’s shaky marriage

THE alleged collapse of gospel sensation Mathias Mhere’s six-year marriage has sent tongues wagging in Mutare, with some people saying Mhere’s wife could have been starved of attention and decided to turn to her husband’s friend who seemed available, hence deserved forgiveness. Mhere’s wife Susan Dzinamarira publicly apologised to her husband and his family for having an affair with Mhere’s close friend Gift Mahlupeka, adding that she wants to work on her marriage with Mathias.

Though she refused to be named, one woman who spoke to The Manica Post lobbying for Dzinamarira’s forgiveness said Mhere drowned himself in a chase for fame and lost his wife in the process.

“It is just that we do not know what was happening behind the scenes. I think Mhere’s wife was not getting attention from the musician and in her bid for care and attention, she ended up making advances at Mahlupeka. Dzinamanzira is still young and needs that love to keep her going. Mhere’s consent to a meeting could be his way of acknowledging that he contributed to his wife’s behaviour somehow.

“Dzinamarira’s apology does not automatically mean that she is entirely wrong. When things go wrong like this, women are expected to submit just for the sake of moving on. After all has been said and done, I think this woman has to be forgiven because she is human. These things happen,” she said.

Amazingly, one of the men interviewed strongly felt that Dzinamanzira deserved a second chance.
Said Patrick Machipanda: “This woman is human and prone to mistakes. She should be forgiven and given a second chance. We all sin before the eyes of the Lord and as such we all deserve forgiveness. Just because we sin differently does not make us perfect. I want to believe that Mhere understands the Word of God and so he should just be man enough, forgive his wife and move on for the sake of their children. Even Hosea in the Bible was married to Gomer, a prostitute.”

Sharing the same sentiments was Getrude Mwiinga who, however, added that Dzinamarira must be a habitual cheat.
“Had she not been caught, I doubt that she was ever going to apologise like she is doing now. I think sleeping around is her nature, but this time, the truth came out.

However, it is not up to us as people to judge. She should be forgiven and given a second chance. If it was a man who had been caught, people would make noise that he should be forgiven and it should be no different with Mhere’s wife. She should be forgiven, she is also a human being,” she said.

Yvonne Chikanda, who is a member of the Mwazha Apostolic Church, said Mhere’s marriage would take a lot of work to be saved because the trust has been dented. “What the woman did was wrong. It is taboo and unexemplary for a woman to act in the manner she did. Even if they get back together it will be difficult for them because the trust is lost now. Before she opted for his friend, she was supposed to know the reason why she left her parents for Matthias,” she said.
