Mutare woman arrested for assaulting 10-month-old baby

A 30-year-old Mutare woman has been arrested after she was captured on camera while assaulting her 10-month-old daughter

with a stick and ordering her to crawl.

In the 20-second-long video, the woman is also heard ordering the baby, who was crying helplessly, to keep quiet.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that the woman has been arrested.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of a 30-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting her 10-month-old baby girl with a stick. This

happened in Temberere Village in Zimunya, Mutare, on October 11,” he said.

“The incident came to light after a disturbing video went viral on social media.”

Following her arrest, the woman confessed to the offense in another video.

Meanwhile, police in Chivhu have arrested Omega Chemhere (21) for concealing the birth of a stillborn baby.

The suspect allegedly disposed the baby’s body in a bin at a school in Chivhu on October 9, 2024.
