For assaulting her neighbour, a Hobhouse woman was fined $150 or would spend three months behind bars.

Felistas Chamahunya pleaded guilty of assaulting Melody Mabhiza when she appeared before Mutare senior magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura.

Representing the state was Mr Fletcher Karombe.

Allegations were that Chamahunya assaulted Mabhiza and bit her on the left hand.

On December 4 Mabhiza visited her sister’s place at number 1241 Hobhouse with her friend Tapiwa Muguta.

Muguta begun harvesting some peaches from the tree using stones but she was stopped by Chamahunya.

This resulted in a heated argument which degenerated into a fight.

Mabhiza tried to stop the fight but Chamahunya bit her on the left hand and finger.

Chamahunya defended her actions in court and said: “Your Worship I was fighting back since they attacked me.

“I did not know that I was committing an offence since I was defending myself.”

However, Mrs Chiundura found her guilty as charged.

“Reserve your teeth for chewing food not biting people.

“Why do you use your teeth to fight someone? I will heavily fine you so that you desist from that act,” she said.
