FARMERS in Mutasa District have started receiving small grain inputs under Government’s Command Agriculture programme as preparations for the 2021-2022 farming season hit top gear.

The district’s Agritex officer Mr Abraham Matsanura said farmers in Mutasa had carried out their preparations in time and were ready for the onset of the rains to plant their crops.

“We have received seed for soya bean, groundnuts and other legume crops. As soon as the required rains fall, the farmers will then plant. Farmers can also alternate between early maturing and late maturing varieties,” said Mr Matsanura.

The production of small grains in Mutasa District has over the years been affected by several obstacles that include limited access to inputs and poor prices for the product.

Under National Development Strategy (NDS1), Government is targeting to improve food and nutrition security as well as enhancing farmers’ production and productivity.
