In a statement, FC Platinum president George Mawere said Tendai Chikuni, who had been acting as head coach, will remain the assistant coach.
Mawere said Mutasa will retain his duties as the Warriors assistant coach and is likely to be unveiled to the players on Monday.
His first game could be the BancABC quarter final against Highlanders at Mucheke next week and he will probably bring Masimba Dinyero as one of the assistants.
Dinyero could replace Anderson Phiri who has also followed Chilumba back home.
“In line with its quest to enhance excellence at its soccer academy based at Guinea Fowl in Gweru and Under-19 team currently in Southern Region’s Division One, FC Platinum Football Club, have appointed Lloyd Mutasa as its Talent Development Coach and First Assistant to the senior team.
“Over and above his role, Mr Mutasa will also work as acting head coach of FC Platinum until the end of year (2013),” read part of the statement.
It appears Mutasa, will be serving his probation before he could be confirmed the substantive coach at the review of his contract.
FC Platinum are understood to have earmarked Norman Mapeza for the post but the former Warriors skipper turned down the offer.
Mapeza is still tied to his contract with Zifa and has found it frustrating that he can not get a new job while he is not being paid by the football controlling body.
“Prior to this appointment, Lloyd Mutasa has had numerous stints as coach of teams in Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Under 17 and senior national team. He continues to serve as assistant coach to the national team,” read part of the statement.
Mutasa starting his career as player/coach at Sporting Lions before he stints at Shooting Stars, Kiglon, Eastern Lions and Dynamos.
Last year, Mutasa, quit Swazi side Green Buffaloes and is now expected to spearhead FC Platinum’s ambition to win the league championship.
“FC Platinum wishes Lloyd success in this new role and we look forward to working with him to ensure that the club develops grassroots talent and remains a competitive top-flight club in Zimbabwe.
“We believe Mutasa has the pedigree to shape our development structures in line with our vision of being a key feeder of talent into various national teams,” said Mawere.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association are set to hold a Caf B licence course which should attract at least 40 participants.
