Muterere claim inaugural soccer tourney title

MUTERERE High School lifted the inaugural edition of the KB9 schools soccer tournament title after beating St Peter’s Mandeya in an exciting match played at Muterere last weekend.
It was a rare spectacle and a hive of activity in the sleepy community situated about five kilometres off the Mutare-Aberfoyle road in Mutasa District.

Four teams drawn from the district battled it out for the prestigious trophy sponsored by former student, Kabukani Nine Maphosa.

Other teams that took part in the tournament aimed at promoting soccer at the grassroots and tapping rural talent were secondary schools Nyamhingura and Chisuko.

Muterere won, courtesy of a solitary strike by talented and ambitious striker Kevin Chimuti and received a trophy, gold medal and a soccer kit.

Spokesperson for the tournament Emmanuel Bosha paid tribute to the community, teachers and headmasters of the participating schools who made the event a success.

“The tournament was an eye-opener. There are a lot of talented soccer players who lack exposure in these rural areas and we hope these tournaments will keep their dreams alive,” he said.
