Mutombodzi in Bangladesh

Sports Reporter
ZIMBABWE A one-day cricket captain Tinotenda Mutombodzi left for Bangladesh on Tuesday to replace Richmond Mutumbami, who was injured during Zimbabwe’s first ODI match in Dhaka on Saturday.

Mutumbami was hit by the ball on the ankle while keeping wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, and a magnetic resonance imaging scan confirmed a grade one mid-Achilles tear with tendonitis and bone injury.

With Mutumbami out hurt, all-rounder Luke Jongwe was pushed up the order to open with Chamu Chibhabha in the first ODI. He made 39 runs off 51 balls, in the match that Zimbabwe lost by 145 runs.

Regis Chakabva then made one run off 19 balls when he opened with Chibhabha in the second ODI, which Bangladesh won by 58 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Bangladesh hosted Zimbabwe in the third and final ODI yesterday, at the same venue, the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

The Zimbabwe tour of Bangladesh will then round off with two Twenty20 International matches tomorrow and Sunday at the same venue. Meanwhile, the women cricket team will leave the country tomorrow for the 2015 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 qualifier to be held in Thailand from November 28 to December 5. It is the second edition of the Women’s World Twenty20 qualifier.

All matches will be played in Bangkok, with two grounds to be used (the Thailand Cricket Ground and the Asian Institute of Technology Ground).
