(Caps United win 3-2 on penalties)

HIGHLANDERS new and controversial signing Rodreck Mutuma broke down in tears after missing the decisive penalty as Caps United won the 2017 ZNA Charities Shield final at Barbourfields yesterday.

The match had ended goalless.

Makepekepe converted their efforts through Cabby Kamhapa, Dominic Chungwa and Justine Jangano.

Skipper Moses Muchenje and Tafadzwa Rusike fluffed their efforts.

Simon Munawa and Bukhosi Ncube were successful for Bosso but Mutuma, Tendai Ngulube and Brian Banda had no such luck.

Mutuma needed to score to keep his team in the game but his effort was saved by Jorum Muchambo who was standing in for Edmore Sibanda who is with the Warriors.

Makepekepe were by far the better side during regulation time and could have taken the lead in the 50th minute but Leonard Tsipa had his penalty saved by Bosso second choice Prosper Matutu.

Highlanders’ number one Arial Sibanda is also in camp with the Warriors.

Going into the match Mutuma had vowed to take Makepekepe to the cleaners.

“I love playing at Barbourfields Stadium and even if my eyes are closed I will score,” the former Caps United and Dynamos man was quoted as saying during the week.

But when it mattered the most the self styled prince failed to deliver.

The win, which guarantees Caps United a $12 000 cheque, came barely a week after the Harare side dumped fancied five time African champions TP Mazembe out of the CAF Champions League.

Crucially it gives Lloyd Chitembwe’s men a lot of confidence ahead of the start of their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title defence next weekend.
