THE Mutupo-Isibongo Golf Tournament is set to make history in Bulawayo, as it takes its first step towards inclusivity.
The tournament, which was previously only open to golfers with African totems, will now be welcoming players of all races and backgrounds, thanks to the incorporation of zodiac signs.
“The concept unifies golfers through relationships created by representing their Mutupo-Isibongo,” said tournament director, Ephraim Mashingaidze.
“Golfers who do not have the Zimbabwean Mutupo-Isibongo can use their zodiac sign birthmark which can be matched to their animal/earth sign.”
This groundbreaking move is part of the inclusivity growth strategy (IGS) of the brand, which has been a resounding success so far.
The tournament has already been held in two different provinces, with the third edition set to take place at the Bulawayo Country Club in the City of Kings and Queens.
Mashingaidze expressed excitement about the upcoming tournament and the positive reception the zodiac signs have received.
“The challenging, tricky layout at Bulawayo Country Club will present great experiences for the golfers going to participate in this edition,” he said.
But the growth of the brand doesn’t stop here. Mashingaidze revealed that the organisers are already working on phase two of the IGS, with plans to grow the brand in the junior sector.
“We are also working throughout the clock to ensure that our current and future corporate and entrepreneur partners get a bigger, more diverse and wider catchment platform,” he added.
The Mutupo-Isibongo Golf Tournament will continue to be held in various provinces throughout Zimbabwe, culminating in a two-day final at the Police Golf Club in the capital.
The tournament has already been a huge success in promoting inclusivity and diversity in the sport, and with the addition of zodiac signs, it will only continue to grow and attract more players from different backgrounds.
