Muzhingi eyes NY top 10

York City marathon when he makes his second appearance next year.
Not only will he be making his second appearance but he will also be among the elite athletes.

Muzhingi said he is a happy man despite failing to make it into the top 10 in the previous race as he secured a place in next year’s race after finishing in the top 50.
“I qualified to run as an elite athlete next year when I compete in the New York City marathon after I finished the race on position 34 out of 47 000 athletes.
“The organisers of the race have said they will cater for all the expenses.

“They focus more on the top 50 for the elite athletes’ section and I am glad I made it.
“I am aiming to finish in the top 10 next year because I have enough time to prepare.

“Most of the professionals that take part in this race train for this marathon because it has got more money so they focus on that only and if they are to compete in any other race it will be similar to this one,” said Muzhingi.

The three-time Comrades marathon winner said he has now set his focus on the Comrades and the Two Oceans for next year.
“Now I am training for the Comrades and Two Oceans, after that I will focus on the New York City race because it’s now part of my programme.

“I now know the course and we discussed it with my coach who saw me running at the event.
“I just want to forget that I have won the Comrades marathon for three consecutive times and start again as a novice,” said Muzhingi.

Muzhingi said taking part in the New York City marathon was an eye-opener and a learning curve.

“I am happy because I’m improving my career and I have decided that I will not look for another job but focus on athletics.
“I am hoping to run a better time in the future,” said Muzhingi.
