The event is set to run from December 13 to 17 in the capital and registration is already underway.

TZ administrator, Cliff Nhokwara, said they were looking forward to a better and bigger event than ever before with three countries from the Southern Africa Region having shown interest in the tournament.
“We have already started marketing the event in the Southern Africa and our neighbouring countries, South Africa, Zambia and Botswana have shown their interest in the tournament.
“But they have not yet given us any names.
“We think this is going to be one of the best and competitive tournaments because of the money. We are also hoping that Takanyi Garan’anga might be available. We put through a request to him to come and he wants to see if it fits on his calendar.
“He is also going to have meeting with his coach to see if it’s possible for him to come so we are waiting for that confirmation,” said Nhokwara.
Garan’anga won a gold medal at the All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique in September.
Nhokwara said they were also hoping that former players will also come for the event.
“We are expecting the old horses such as Martin Dzuwa and Genius Chidzikwe to compete.
“There is also Gwinyai Chigoka who is around, hopefully he will take part,” said Nhokwara.
Benjamin Lock and Valeria Bhunu are the defending champions in the men and women’s category respectively and they will be out to defend their titles.
“Benji and Valeria have confirmed that they will be available for the tournament. We still have some time for registration as it will close on December 10 and the draw date is the 13th,” said Nhokwara.
Meanwhile, Harare province will hold a Junior Closed tournament from November 25 to 27 at Old Hararians.
Tournament director, Linsent Chitiyo, said they were expecting 150 players for the competition, which will cater for the Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 age groups.
