MWOS defender Valentine Katsande says the team is determined to build on the momentum from their 2-1 away victory against AGAMA in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League on Monday.
Katsande, who joined MWOS last year, has been playing an integral role on the right side of a back three employed by head coach Lloyd Mutasa, alongside Innocent Zambezi and Tafadzwa Nyabunze.
He has become a key part of the squad, bringing notable versatility.
With the league still in its early days, Katsande hailed the importance of the AGAMA result.
“The win against AGAMA was crucial for us after losing against Dynamos. The win against AGAMA came at the right time, and we are seeking to continue in that trajectory,” he said.
Katsande has displayed attractive football, often roving into midfield and adding numbers in attack. He said such roles are not new to him, having played in advanced positions before at Black Rhinos.
“When the opportunity to go forward comes, of course I always enjoy going into spaces to add an edge in attack. Remember at some point I have been tasked to play in advance roles, which I was able to excel at, and it is still within me,” Katsande said.
Speaking on the team’s target, Katsande said they are working to win as many games as possible.
“So far our aim is taking one game after the other. We need to win games as they come. That’s our team goal, win as many games as possible and avoid losing if possible. If we manage to do that, then it becomes an easy task on all other targets set,” he added.
MWOS finished as runners-up last year to reigning champions Scottland and are therefore expected to surpass their previous season’s achievements.
However, Katsande said the team will not pressure itself based on past results.
“This is football, and the past can’t be looked at. We have to look into the present and give our best and see how everything unveils,” he said.
After matchday six, MWOS are currently in eighth position with nine points six adrift log leaders CAPS United.
On Saturday they will be hosting Simba Bhora at Ngoni in a league match. Katsande said it’s a tricky match as Simba Bhora are wounded coming from a defeat.
“They are coming from a defeat, and they would be seeking redemption but us as a team we have our targets and we want to keep on the winning momentum so it’s game on,” he said.
