MWOS maintain unbeaten run

CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League newcomers, MWOS extended their unbeaten start to their maiden campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over stubborn ZPC Kariba at the Baobab Stadium on Saturday.

After a goalless first half filled with missed opportunities at Baobab Stadium on Saturday in Mhondoro Ngezi, Billy Veremu scored the decisive goal with a header, complimenting an assist by Nigel Matiya midway through the second half.

MWOS coach, Lloyd “Samaita” Mutasa applauded his players for their resilience but cautioned against complacency.

“I would like to first commend the boys for creating numerous chances in all the games we have played, even though our conversion rate has not been proportional,” said Mutasa.

“Secondly, it’s still early in the race and the boys must not brag. They know the team’s vision is to remain in the league, and everyone needs to stay humble and keep working hard.”

MWOS have had an impressive start as their five unbeaten matches include the opener against Highlanders (1-0) and a goalless draw away to FC Platinum.

Mutasa’s charges have won all three matches played at the Baobab stadium as work continues at their Ngoni Stadium in Norton where they will host matches later on in the season, barring unforeseen delays.

Kariba’s mediocrity facing goalmouth disappointed their coach, Newten Chitewe.

“I’m not happy with our finishing because we are failing to score, but we will work on improving where we are lacking,” Chitewe said.
