Perfect start for Greenfuel

GREENFUEL are determined to fight for a better finish after spending the last two seasons battling for survival in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

A decent start moved them into fifth place on Saturday after a 1-0 win over Yadah at the Greenfuel Arena.

A perfect second half goal from Perfect Chikwende was enough to give Greenfuel their first set of points at home this season in a tightly contested match against Yadah.

The first half was balanced and both teams were conservative in their play. Greenfuel have conceded in the first 10 minutes against Bikita Minerals last weekend and they were too defensive in the opening stages.

Both teams produced better performances in the second half but the home side enjoyed a fair share of possession in the attacking third, but their decision making was poor as they wasted a handful of opportunities.

Greenfuel goalkeeper, Ashley Reyners produced another match winning save to deny Yadah second half substitute Tanaka Chikumba what looked like a certain equaliser with less than five minutes remaining.

“It was a very good game of football. We didn’t create a lot of chances in the first half but we were a much better side in the second half. We managed to score early in the second phase, and we managed the game well to collect our first set of points at home.

“I am happy with the clean sheet especially playing against a team that scored so many goals this past weekend.  It’s a plus for us and we can build on that”, said Greenfuel assistant coach Godfrey Tamirepi.

Yadah coach Ikabort Masocha was disappointed with the result but gave credit to Greenfuel for the drive and hunger they showed throughout the match.

“It’s a fair result. We had few chances which I felt could have killed the game for us but we were not clinical. They got one chance, and they capitalised on that. We need to pick ourselves up, try again and perfect the art of scoring as we prepare for our next game against Scottland in Harare,” said Masocha.
