MWOS kept their fate in their hands with a crucial 2-1 win over former title challengers Golden Eagles at Ellis Robbins yesterday.
Goals from Arthur Banda and Tafadzwa Goerge were enough to seal the victory for the Punters.
Salif Cheya’s consolation for the hosts came in the additional time.
At Chinhoyi Stadium, second placed Scottland beat Chinhoyi Stars 2-0 to keep up with MWOS.
Goals from Cleopas Dube and Allan Gahadzikwa in the first half were enough for Genesis Mangombe’s Scottland.
At Ellis Robins, MWOS head coach Lloyd Mutasa said the win was an assurance of them having destiny in their own hands.
Yesterday’s win was the first against Golden Eagles after their previous three meetings ended in 1-1 draws.
“Another tough encounter, but you know when you are chasing the title there is no bad win,” said Mutasa.
“Harare City and Golden Eagles are as good as derbies and this is our first win against them (Golden Eagles).
“We have seen such form from the goal scorers in training and I am happy we managed to score today because Golden Eagles came in to score one like what happened the other time.
“It’s quite clear that one goal is not enough and with two goals we were quite sure we were going to make it today.
“With four games to go, the win ensures that destiny is in our own hands and we are on top because of better goal difference.”
“But we can only count that with a bit of consistency in the remaining games.
