My Own Boss goes on air

On ZBCtv the reality show will air at 7pm till 8pm for the next 13 weeks.

The 13-episode show will see 15 contestants selected from Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces battle it out for the $25 000 prize.

Sandisiwe Mahlangu and Knowledge Nyenyayi are the two contestants representing Bulawayo province.

Mahlangu leads an all-female group called the Explosives.

In an interview yesterday MOB head of public relations Farirai Macheka said the reality show was focused on Zimbabweans coming up with business solutions unique to their economy.
She said the entrepreneurial skills that contestants had would be used to strengthen Zimbabwean industry.

“The show sets on concretising Zimbabwean industry through the various entrepreneurial skills that these aspiring business owners possess,” said Macheka.
She said the first episode would see the contestants embarking on their first task of Buy Zimbabwe merchandising.

“The debut episode of the entrepreneurial reality show saw the contestants embarking on their first task which focused on Buy Zimbabwe merchandise. My Own Boss contestants were broken into two groups to form two companies Alkandros and Explosives,” said Macheka.

She said each week Kingdom Bank founder Nigel Chanakira will send contestants on the chopping board for elimination.

“The chief mentor, Nigel Chanakira, founder of Kingdom Bank, will send heads rolling on the chopping board as the various tasks assigned to the contestants weekly, and key entrepreneurial skills such as teamwork, leadership, innovation and bankable business ideas would be determinants of who goes to Homeville and who gains immunity from elimination,” said Macheka.

Contacted for comment, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s public relations manager Sivukile Simango confirmed the development.

“I can confirm that the reality show will start on Thursday from 7pm to 8pm. All I can say is I wish the producers all the best,” he said.

Previous seasons saw the contestants from two nations — Zambia and Zimbabwe — locking horns in what was dubbed the “Battle of the Falls”.

With an added touch of class the show is hitting its stride as it has shifted its focus on roping in contestants from Zimbabwe and Zambia by making it exclusively a Zimbabwean affair.
