Mzembi speaks on Masvingo airport

month. Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Engineer Walter Mzembi on Monday said there was an urgent need to upgrade the airport to accommodate bigger aircraft that would bring over 200 tourism ministers from various countries to visit the Great Zimbabwe monuments. He said the state of the airport made it difficult to accommodate larger aircraft, saying it would cause nightmares to transport the ministerial delegation to visit the Great Zimbabwe monuments.

“I would like to appeal to Government to make sure that Masvingo Airport is speedily upgraded to enable it to accommodate larger aircraft that will bring a ministerial delegation of over 200 tourism ministers who will visit the Great Zimbabwe monuments during the UNWTO congress.

“Upgrading that airport will ease our logistical nightmares in terms of transporting some of our guests especially as Masvingo is one of the provinces that a significant number of visitors during the congress will flock to,’’ he said.

Engineer Mzembi said the alternative plan to transport the ministerial delegation to the Great Zimbabwe monuments was to bring them via Buffalo Range International Airport which is nearly 200 kilometres away.
Masvingo Airport could not accommodate  large  aircraft  owing to the small size of its runway that could only be used by small aircraft such as the MA60.
