Acting Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident saying investigations were in progress to establish what really transpired.
“We received a report following the death of Foroma who died on July 22, two days after he received an electrical shock while fixing an electrical fault at Wake Up Flat in Ruware Park,” he said.
It is said that on July 19 Foroma was attending to an electrical fault at Wake Up Flat when he came into contact with a live electric wire with his left hand resulting in him receiving an electric shock. It is reported that after the electric shock Foroma collapsed and he was rushed to Borradaile Trust Hospital for treatment. Upon arrival at Borradaile Hospital it is alleged that Foroma was admitted but died on July 22 at around 8am.
A report was made at Marondera Rural Police Station and his body was taken to Marondera General Hospital for a post mortem.
There have been cases of people who have been electrocuted when they came into contact with live cables. In Eastlea, Harare a school-going child was electrocuted last year. In Greendale a few years prior to the Eastlea incident a teenage boy died in an electric mishap.
