SEVEN officials from the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) attended a five-day workshop at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYCD) in Zambia, Lusaka from April 7 to April 11.The officials went there to learn more about athletics equipment that was recently installed at the White City Stadium during the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Under-20 Games.

Naaz vice-president, Enias Nhoro said following the workshop, the association expected the standards of sports officiating to improve.

“The workshop was very beneficial for athletics and overall sports in the country. The officials  who attended the workshop now have adequate information on how to use the facilities at White City Stadium,” Nhoro said.

He said the officials will be tasked with setting up the equipment when it is needed as they are now internationally accredited .

Nhoro said the Confederation of Southern African Schools Sports Association (Cosassa) athletes that are in camp at Northlea High School will be assisted by the officials.

“The officials that attended the workshop are Nelson Bingadadi, Collen Jimu, Tawanda Mudawu, Euphrasia Dingo, Shisha Sibanda, Augustine Sibanda and Nellisa Masairi,” said Nhoro.

He said similar workshops should be encouraged as this would help the country in developing tomorrow’s athletes.

“The seven officials are now experts in using track and field equipment at any level. We need more trained officials to ensure athletes are guided by people   with the required knowledge and skills,” he said.
