World Youth Championships Team selection on tomorrow

THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) will hold a World Youth athletics Championships qualifying competition at White City Stadium tomorrow. The Youth Championships will be held in Cali, Colombo from July 15 to 19

A number of athletes will come from the Confederation of Southern African Schools Sports Association (Cosassa) Games team that is in camp at Northlea High School preparing for the trip to Lesotho where the Games will be held next week.

Bulawayo Athletics Board chairman Manuel Mpofu said the selection was an ongoing process.

“We will begin the selection process on Sunday. We will be selecting athletes according to the times set by IAAF,” said Mpofu.

He said they will utilise the electronic timing machines installed at the White City Stadium to give athletes a review of their times every time they run.

Preliminary entry figures show that 1, 424 athletes from 156 countries are set to compete at the IAAF World Youth Championships, making it the biggest international athletics event to be held in South America.
