THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe has resolved to play host to track and field events every fortnight to give athletes more practice.
The association’s secretary-general Cynthia Phiri said the move was necessitated by the fact that there was little action and in order for athletes to sharpen their talents, they needed to compete in lots of races.
She said the track and field competitions would be alternating between Harare and Bulawayo.
“Athletes need more practice if they are going to be any better and that is why we are introducing competitions on a fortnightly basis. These track and field events will ultimately see athletes improving on how they are doing on the track and at the end of the day they are going to do well at regional or international meets.
“The venues for the track and field competitions will be alternating mainly between Bulawayo and Harare,” she said.
Phiri said they were pleased with the attendance at the Naaz Track and Field Championships held at White City Stadium last week.
