throughout the country offered Zimbabweans a chance to sample traditional food and other cultural activities.
The Culture Week, which coincided with the inaugural Zimbabwe International Carnival and was organised in partnership with the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society, took place at the Exhibition Park.
“The main celebrations were held at Murewa Cultural Centre running under the theme ‘Celebrating our Traditions, Pride and Identity.’ Future Academy hosted the Harare provincial celebrations held in Harare,” he said.
He said the response from schools was overwhelming.
“All the schools in Harare had a cultural activity during the week,” he said.
One of the organisers and Future Academy centre manager Nyengeterai Takawira said the celebrations were a resounding success.
“Initially, this initiative was meant to be a small celebration for the academy but when we consulted the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe to officiate, they suggested that we make it a provincial commemoration.
“The move was commendable, considering that Culture Week commemorations have been held outside Harare.
“The celebrations went well with a huge turnout,” she said.
Traditional music icons “Hwamanda” dance group and Chipawo were among the entertainers at the celebrations.
Chinese culture was also on show.
