MARVELOUS Nakamba’s future at Luton Town are uncertain after they suffered back-to-back relegations on Saturday following a dismal 5-3 defeat at West Brom on the final day of the Championship.
The Hatters have finished 22nd in the second tier of English football and will be playing in League One for the 2025/26 campaign.
Luton spent the 2023/24 season in the Premier League before their bottom three finish sent them back into the Championship.
And their league status has now dropped even further following a poor result away to West Brom on Saturday.
Tom Fellows and Callum Styles scored two goals each for the Baggies whilst Daryl Dike also got onto the scoresheet during the rout.
Millenic Alli and Jordan Clark scored what would ultimately be Luton’s consolation goals as they fell to a 23rd defeat of the season.
They will join Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle in League One, with Hull City, Preston North End and Derby County all surviving the drop.
To add further misery onto Luton, they are the fourth team in history to suffer back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to League One.
Swindon Town were first to do so at the end of the 1994/95 campaign and Wolves followed 18 years later.
Sunderland replicated them in 2018, with Luton the latest to hit the unwanted feat in English football.
The Hatters started the day 21st and outside of the Championship relegation spots and therefore had their destiny in their own hands.
But Hull drew 1-1 at Portsmouth to climb out of the bottom three on an unsurprisingly dramatic day.
Cardiff’s relegation was confirmed last weekend with their 0-0 draw at home to West Brom.
Plymouth have followed them and Luton into League One despite drawing 1-1 against the promoted Leeds United on Saturday.
With revenues expected to drop further, Luton will be under pressure to adjust their spending and player salaries are one top priority.
Luton will, thus, be forced to transfer some of their big earners a category which Zimbabwe captain Nakamba will fit .
