FOR the fourth year running, The Sunday Mail Leisure has been nominated in the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) Outstanding Print Journalist category.
The Sunday Mail’s Garikai Mazara, Sharon Muguwu (Daily News) and Tinashe Muchuri (Parade) have been nominated and one of them will walk away with the gong on February 14 at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, Harare.
Last year, The Sunday Mail’s Shamiso Yikoniko won the award, and the year before that it was another journalist from this paper, Mtandazo Dube, who took the honours.
The year before landing the coveted award, Dube had been nominated.
Mabasa Sasa, the acting editor of Zimbabwe’s leading weekly publication, said the fact that the paper’s writers had been nominated for the award for four straight years was evidence of the high esteem in which The Sunday Mail is held.
“Getting a nomination is in itself a great honour, but getting it four years in a row proves that The Sunday Mail brings star quality to the show.
We strive to give our readers the best there is in the world of the arts and our efforts have not gone unnoticed,” said Sasa.
Away from this, the spotlight on event night is likely to fall on Tocky Vibe, who has three nominations for Outstanding Male Musician, Outstanding Album and Outstanding Song.
The Outstanding Female Musician category will see a close contest between Cynthia Mare, Agartha Muruudzwa and Cindy Munyavi.
