adminThe final showdown of the country’s premier arts awards will be held on 18 February at its traditional home, 7 Arts Theatre in Harare.
In an interview yesterday, the NACZ assistant director arts promotion and development, Audrey Charamba, said this year’s edition recorded a high response.
“Preparations are on course and I am glad to say that this year we received double the entries that we received last year.
“We have 592 entries and the adjudicators are going through them,” she said.
Charamba said the nominees will be announced on 1 February and they will be awarded their certificates on the eve of the ceremony.

She said this year’s edition was bigger and better as Nama had grown in stature and was the country’s top arts ceremony which recognises all genres of art.
She said this year’s Nama would see artistes of different genres that include television, dance, visual arts, theatre, media and music, getting accolades for their sterling displays during 2011. She said there were 35 categories.
Charamba said the People’s Choice awards will be open for the public to send in their nominations via sms or online.
The adjudicators and the NACZ have no say in this category as the decision lies solely in the hands of the public.
The Nama awards are an annual event that seeks to promote and award deserving artistes of various genres in the country.
The awards, which were pencilled to take place in Bulawayo for the first time, were moved back to their traditional home, 7 Arts Theatre, due to lack of funding and support.
