WINDHOEK – Namibian law enforcement agents are on high alert amid threats by the radical movement, Affirmative Repositioning (AR), to lead large-scale land occupation across the country on July 31.
Police Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga had to call off a press conference that was scheduled for Friday to address the media on the imminent land invasion by land hungry youth.
It seemed the press conference was called off to give law and security apparatuses time to have wider consultations on how to deal with the planned land occupations, according to a New Era report on Friday.
Ndeitunga is expected to meet police commanders of all the 14 regions to prepare for the occupation
“Meeting regional commanders is in the pipeline already – we are in charge of security. We just need the laws to be respected, people should not take it for granted,” he said.
“We have no problem with those demanding their rights through established procedures, but those who want to tear up the Constitution will not be tolerated,” the police warned.
AR official Job Amupanda on Thursday called on young Namibians to grab land, saying the government has failed to address their plight by providing affordable land. – APA/HR
