A WELL-KNOWN Nyanga traditional healer is in hot soup for allegedly scamming his clients by repeatedly asking for payments of goblins that he would have repossessed.
It is alleged that despite taking back his goblins and receiving payment from the Kunyaura family in 2021, Sekuru Sithole is insisting that the family still has his goblins and is demanding more money for their services.
Sekuru Sithole is popular for parcelling out wealth enhancing goblins to clients nationwide.
The matter appeared before Acting Chief Saunyama’s court last week on Friday, where Eric Kunyaura and his father, Zekiya Kunyaura, had hauled Zekiya’s brothers, Noah, Samuel, Andrew and Peter Kunyaura as well as Headman Mushonga.
The pair alleged that the Kunyaura brothers accuse them of possessing wealth enhancing goblins.
“Sithole said he wanted to visit our homestead. When we went with him there, he said we still possess his goblins despite the fact that we surrendered them back to him in 2021.
“We even paid him back what we owed him when he took back his mysterious and spiritual beings. We were left with no option, but to bring this matter to this court again for recourse,” said a distraught Eric.
Eric’s uncles said the goblins are still traumatising them.
“Our children suffer from incessant incurable ailments. When we consulted traditional healers, they fingered Eric and his father as the source of our predicament,” said Noah.
The Kunyauras said they have since denounced their religion to have the issue solved once and for all.
They claimed that they were devout members of the Johane Masowe Apostolic Sect.
“We will only revert back to be Johane Masowe Apostolic Sect members after this issue has been resolved. Zekiya and his son, Eric, are responsible for our families’ suffering.
“Our children are dying and we want a remedy, and that is why we consulted Sithole. He told us that his goblins which are at Zekiya’s homestead are behind all the ailments and deaths.
“He asked for his payment. Now that the father-son duo has paid him his dues, we believe that all the torments will end,” said Peter.
Eric, however, told the court that they are accused of possessing goblins by the family because he is the only one who is gainfully employed.
“Honestly, is it a crime to be employed? I do not even earn much. Sithole and these men are taking advantage of us because we own a herd of cattle, but it is not fair.
“My father paid his dues in 2021 and he should be forgiven. He did not even know that it was a goblin that he had been given by Sithole years ago, only to realise after the countless deaths in the family,” said Eric.
He claimed that his father was given a luck charm that turned into a goblin. In his ruling, Acting Chief Saunyama said he will not tolerate spiritual healers who dupe people in his area.
“We are having a big problem with traditional healers who are duping innocent people in this area. We will not allow this. Why did he take more cattle when he took payment two years ago?
“This means that Sithole is not repossessing his goblins after people surrender them to him. It means that he is now using his goblins in a get-rich-quick scheme. Healers cannot dupe clients and demand payment after every two or so years. I want him to appear before this court so that he restitutes this family. He should also explain to us what is really happening,” said the Chief.
Sithole and the Kunyaura family are expected back at the community court on July 14.
