NAPH finalise athletics team

MASHONALAND West Province dominated the 2017 annual National Association of Primary School Heads track and field events whose curtain came down at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

The two-day NAPH event saw all the 10 provinces bringing their best athletes for selection into the national team for the COSASA games which Zimbabwe will host in August.

Mashonaland West won 15 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze medals.

Manicaland were second after amassing 13 gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals.

Hosts Harare, who enjoyed a lot of support, were third with nine gold, nine silver and 11 bronze medals.

Bulawayo finished fourth with eight gold, eight silver and six bronze,

Masvingo Province completed the top five after they managed six gold, 13 silver and 11 bronze.

Last year the tournament was held in Windhoek, Namibia and Zimbabwe emerged tops.

The primary school pupils, whose age fall under 12, battled it out in disciplines like sprints, high jump, triple jump, long jump and discuss.
