THE eleventh edition of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games came to an end at the weekend, with hosts Bulawayo scooping 40 medals as they were crowned overall winners of the week-long event. Masvingo were second with 22 medals, while Mashonaland East settled for third place and Harare could only manage fourth place after scooping eight gold medals.
Midlands were fifth with seven gold medals while Mash Central were sixth and Manicaland seventh with five gold medals.
Sports Commission acting director general Patience Kabanda paid tribute to Bulawayo Province for the way they organised the Games.
“As we move to Masvingo, who are the 2014 hosts of the Games, focus shall be on quality management,” said Kabanda.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Secretary for Education, Sport, Arts and Culture Constance Chigwamba challenged the Sports Commission and its stakeholders to revive identification and nurturing of talent at grassroots level.
Masvingo were honoured as the most organised province, while hosts Bulawayo were honoured as the most improved province.
