TELONE 2 – 1 NGEZI PLATINUM STARS
The “WiFi Boys” switched on the heat at Ascot Stadium, stunning log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars with a gutsy 2-1 victory to maintain their flawless home run in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Former Dynamos hitman Tawanda Macheke and in-form striker Washington Navaya lit up the showdown, combining for both goals in a statement win that blows the title race wide open.
“We saw them against CAPS United and knew how good they are, but we managed to neutralise them,” said a beaming TelOne coach Herbert Maruwa.
“We got our chances and made them count. I’m happy with the team’s progress and the development of the young players.”
Macheke gave TelOne a dream start just four minutes in, pouncing on a rebound after Ngezi goalie Darlington Murasiranwa spilled Navaya’s low drive.
Madamburo pulled one back soon after the break through Malvin Gaki, whose peach of a left-footer gave keeper Tapiwa Chilenga no chance.
But Navaya, red-hot and ruthless, had the last word — ghosting in unmarked to nod home a teasing Macheke delivery and claim his fifth goal of the season.
Ngezi threw the kitchen sink late on, with Talent Chamboko smacking the upright from a curling free-kick, but TelOne’s backline held like a brick wall.
Despite the loss, Ngezi cling to top spot with 13 points, while TelOne leap into fifth, just three points off the summit.
“We didn’t come here to lose, but that’s football,” said Ngezi coach Takesure Chiragwi.
“Sometimes you give 100 percent and still lose — today was one of those days.”
TelOne fans will hope this WiFi signal stays strong — the title race just got real.
