IT has been a nervy start for four of the five Harare based teams in the first eight rounds of the Castle Lager Premiership.
Only new boys Scottland are in the top four picture.
Dynamos, CAPS United, Herentals, and Yadah are in the bottom half of the league table.
Makepekepe, DeMbare, and the Miracle Boys are running the risk of being swept away by relegation waters as they appear stuck in the red zone.
CAPS United were the last team from the capital to lift the championship nine years ago under the guidance of Lloyd Chitembwe.
Sadly, CAPS United a huge section of the Green family are beginning to curse the season that Chitembwe won that championship.
Each time CAPS United fans demand Chitembwe to be fired. The club owner, Farai Jere, keeps reminding them that he is the same man that won them their last silverware.
Scottland are five points behind leaders MWOS, who are enjoying a fairytale run that has seen them avoiding a loss conceding one goal during the period under review.
It is difficult to exclude Dynamos and CAPS United from the relegation conversation when no player has recorded two goals at DeMbare after eight games. Dynamos have registered two goals this season. Juan Mutudza is Makepekepe’s leading goalscorer with two goals, and they have scored a total of five goals.
This means a combined total of the two Harare giants’ goals matches TelOne’s forward Washington Navaya, who has busted the net seven times.
Herentals were the best team in Harare last season after securing a top four finish.
The Students are just four points away from a top-four slot. Their captain, Tino Benza, scored a solitary strike that floored Green Fuel last Friday.
The victory got their coach Paul Benza believing that they can replicate their last season’s remarkable finish.
“It is very important that our captain Tino finally ended his scoring drought, getting us the much-needed points.
“Our target for this season is to get our last season’s position, so we are going to keep on working very hard to get that spot,” said Benza.
