THE goal drought in the Castle Lager Premiership was underlined at the weekend as only two teams secured maximum points at Rufaro Stadium while only 10 goals were scored from the nine matches on Matchday 8.
Herentals and CAPS United were the only winners on a weekend which recorded seven draws, three of them goalless while the remainder were 1-1 deadlocks, as they claimed 1-0 victories against Greenfuel and Yadah on Friday and Saturday respectively.
The last time there were only two winners in one round of fixtures was last season on Week 13 on the weekend of May 22-23 when only Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum won 2-1 against newcomers Chegutu Pirates and Arenel Movers respectively.
However, the weekend had 16 goals from the nine matches.
Seven other matches ended in draws with ZPC Kariba featuring in a goalless draw as was the case this weekend.
ZPC Kariba have the most 0-0 draws in the Premier League since they joined in 2014, a season they narrowly missed out on the title, with 52 such stalemates over 10 seasons.
They average 5.2 goalless draws per season with 25 coming between 2014 and 2019 while 27 have come in the period between 2022 and past weekend.
In Saturday’s goalless draw against Scottland at Nyamhunga, it became the first match involving Tonderai Ndiraya’s moneybags that did not produce a goal this season.
ZPC Kariba are closely followed by Dynamos who have 49 goalless draws since 2014.
