NYASHA Charandura Athletic Academy (NCAA) athlete Tapiwa Pfavai scooped four gold medals in the Technical Education Sports Association of Zimbabwe (Tesaz) Track and Field Championships held in Masvingo on Wednesday. The Bulawayo Polytechnic athlete, Pfavai clocked 10.89 seconds to win the 100m dash and 22.51 in the 200m sprint to claim gold medals. He also won gold in the 4×100 and 4x400m relays.
Tawanda Muchabaiwa, Brian Moyo and Steven are the other NCA Academy athletes who took part in the relays along with Pfavai.
Academy director and trainer Nyasha Charandura said he was happy with his athletes’ remarkable show in the Tesaz Games.
“We have been training hard, I am happy that results are starting to come, this is our second string team in the academy,” said Charandura.
Charandura, who will be leading the Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (Zusa) athletics team in the Zitusa Games in June, said this was a step in the right direction for the academy.
“Basically we are training together and our aim is to excell as a club and I believe we are in the right direction, now we want to continue to represent the country in college games,” he said.
Charandura and Itai Vambe represented Zimbabwe last year in the Cucsa Games held in Russia where they were knocked out in the second round. “There is no challenge for us in the Zitusa Games, as we will be just competing among ourselves, so we have to start preparing for the African University Games set for Egypt later this year and the Cusca Games in Korea next year,” said Charandura.
In the Zusa Games Vambe clocked 10.25 seconds while Charandura was second in 10.59 seconds in the 100m sprint.
