HIGHLANDERS fans are still stinging from the silence that followed the final whistle at Barbourfields two weeks ago.

No goals, no cheers, just frustration. But interim coach Try Ncube says that silence won’t last. He’s betting on the Bosso faithful to turn up in full voice and help shake his team out of their slump this Sunday.

Bosso’s last home game ended with fans streaming out before the final whistle, energy drained after MWOS punished their wastefulness with a late sucker punch. Last weekend in Gweru? Same story. The Bulawayo giants couldn’t convert again, stretching their goalless run to three games. Since taking over, Ncube hasn’t seen his team score, let alone win. His tactics will be under the microscope once more when Highlanders host Greenfuel at Barbourfields.

Still, Ncube isn’t dwelling on the gloom. He’s calling on the crowd to help flip the script.

“The boys are training well and raring to go. Everyone is training apart from Tendai Muvuti and Archford Faira, these are definitely out for this week. Mafios Junior Chihweta has been training this week and he should be available on Sunday,” said Ncube. We have failed to score in the past three games but we are working flat out to rectify that.

“We are hoping that on Sunday we are going to score because we have been really working with the forwards and midfielders.”

The pressure on Ncube is no secret. The Highlanders job is never light work, and fans expect better. Sunday isn’t just about points, it’s about restoring belief. “The supporters have to come out in their numbers and support the boys. They have been with us through thick and thin and this game is no exception. They have to come in their numbers and back us and we are going to deliver,” said Ncube.

Highlanders sit ninth on the table with 24 points. Their opponents, Greenfuel, are in 13th with 20, led by veteran coach Rodwell Dhlakama. The visitors have been inconsistent but could still cause problems, especially if Bosso’s scoring woes continue.
