CHICKEN Inn coach Tonderayi Ndiraya has urged Bulawayo’s Premier Soccer League clubs to stand up for the city after his side beat Triangle United 2-0 at Barbourfields on Saturday.
Ndiraya said teams from the City of Kings must show greater fight this season if Bulawayo football is to regain its presence in the league.
The Gamecocks coach welcomed the victory at Barbourfields, where Chicken Inn picked up three points despite earlier expectations that they would stage their home matches at Luveve.
“We managed to get a win at Barbourfields when it was expected we would play our home matches at Luveve. We belong to Bulawayo and I am happy we collected the points,” said Ndiraya.
The former Dynamos coach said the city’s PSL teams share a duty to represent Bulawayo with pride.
“There are three teams from Bulawayo, Chicken Inn, Highlanders and Bulawayo Chiefs. I hope our colleagues will also do the same. We need to work together and help this city fight for its football pride,” he said.
Chicken Inn travel tomorrow for a meeting with newcomers Hardrock, who are coached by Kelvin Kaindu. Both teams are still unbeaten as the league moves into the third round with midweek matches around the country.
FC Platinum visit Harare to face FC Hunters while Triangle United host CAPS United at Gibbo Stadium.
Ngezi Platinum Stars play ZPC Kariba at Baobab Stadium and TelOne face Simba Bhora at Ascot Stadium.
Highlanders host MWOS at Barbourfields as they look for their first win of the campaign.
On Thursday, Bulawayo Chiefs take on Dynamos. Manica Diamonds meet defending champions Scottland while Herentals College face Agama at Rufaro Stadium.
