SCOTTLAND’s fairy tale run could reach its climax today when the Mabvuku outfit visit Gweru’s Ascot Stadium for a clash against already relegated Kwekwe United.
With one hand practically on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League trophy, the star-studded newcomers need only to clear this final hurdle to complete a dream debut season.
“It’s a must win encounter for us. We will not underrate Kwekwe United,” said Scottland coach Tonderayi Ndiraya.
“We will have to give a good fight and make sure we get a positive result as we seek to make history as a club.”
Ndiraya knows the weight of expectation that comes with this run in. Just last season, he guided Simba Bhora to their first ever league title. Now, he stands on the verge of repeating the same feat with a different club, a rare achievement in local football.
For Scottland, today’s fixture looks straightforward on paper, but football has never been that simple. United, though already condemned to Division One, will still be playing for pride and perhaps a chance to spoil the party.
Elsewhere, Dynamos’ fight for survival continues at Rufaro Stadium where they host Bikita Minerals.
“It’s another tricky fixture for us,” said DeMbare coach Kelvin Kaindu.
“But we will take solace in the fact that we’ll be playing at home. We need to take full advantage of that. In fact, all our remaining fixtures will be in Harare.” — @FungaiMuderere
