“Sibanda renounced his Zimbabwean citizenship way back in the 1990s and since then he has been using a South African passport each time he comes to Zimbabwe,” said the source.
It is reported that Sibanda has never followed the proper procedure in clearing the shows that he has been holding like any other foreign musician who comes to perform in Zimbabwe.
“Sibanda is originally from Plumtree, but when he moved to South Africa he decided to renounce his citizenship to become a South African.
“Since then he has been performing in Zimbabwe without any clearance and of which he is actually cheating the Government and the art industry at large,” he said.
The source further alleged that it was not only Sibanda who was cheating as a lot of Zimbabwean musicians were now South African citizens.
“The immigration and other responsible authorities are not aware of this scandal and it’s not only Sibanda alone who is involved,” said the source.
Saturday Leisure is reliably informed that at one point, Sibanda had some of his instruments confiscated at the border, as authorities demanded that he pays duty for the instruments as he was regarded as a foreign national.
“Ndolwane Super Sounds once imported some musical instruments from South Africa and Sibanda could not bring the instruments into the country, as they demanded duty from him,” said the source.
Saturday Leisure caught up with Sibanda and he said all that information was meant to ruin his career.
“Whoever wants to know my citizenship is free to go to the Zimbabwean Home Affairs (authorities) and they will get the relevant information.
“At the moment I am only concentrating on my music nothing else,” he said.
The musician said these were the works of his enemies who wanted to see his down fall.
“The information that these people are talking about is rather too personal and it has got nothing to do with music and really I do not know the motive behind such things.
“I am a Zimbabwean by right and I have the same right that you have to vote if ever the time comes,” he said.
Ndolwane Super Sounds was split into two groups sometime last year after Sibanda broke away from the group that was being led by Charles Ndebele to form his own band.
The musician has so far managed to release his first solo album titled Bakhuzeni, which is a six-track album.
