GOVERNMENT is shifting focus towards data integrity and measurable impact as it rolls out the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), The Manica Post has learnt.
Addressing participants during a National Key Perfomance Indicators (KPIs) Handbook and Data Management workshop in Mutare this morning, Policy Coordination, Analysis and Development Planning Deputy Chief Secretary, Dr Willard Manungo said this places strong emphasis on how development results are tracked and verified. He said the success of NDS2 is hinged on the quality, reliability and consistency of data used in decision-making.
Dr Manungo said credible monitoring systems are essential to ensure that policies translate into real improvements in citizens’ lives.
“Government is introducing strict data management protocols to standardise how information is collected, validated and reported across institutions. The move is expected to eliminate inconsistencies that previously weakened performance tracking under NDS1,” said Dr Manungo, further highlighting a paradigm shift towards fewer, high-impact national indicators.
“Under the new approach, priority will be on strategic results that reflect real socio-economic transformation. Beyond systems, there is need for institutions to operate in a rapid results mode, where monitoring not only tracks progress but drives timely interventions and improved service delivery,” he said.
The workshop, which started today, is focusing on social ministries while the first phase which was conducted earlier this week focused on economic ministries.
