Moreblessing Ncube
A 31-YEAR-OLD woman from Bulawayo has just discovered that turning your neighbour’s home into a personal supermarket comes with a very expensive receipt.
Prisca Ncube found herself on the wrong side of the law after allegedly cleaning out her neighbour’s house in a bold daylight raid that left cupboards empty and tempers boiling.
Prisca appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Challenge Mahembe, who slapped her with a hefty US$400 fine or eight months in prison if she fails to pay.
Prosecutor Veronica Manyuka told the court that on 6 January, while Lignet Muvhimi was away from home, Prisca saw an opportunity and went shopping without a wallet.
The court heard that she helped herself to a long list of household goodies that looked more like a full wedding registry than stolen property.
Among the missing items were an Itel cellphone, two comforters, a ply blanket, a fleece blanket, a 3kg gas tank, makeup, a pair of All Star shoes, a blouse, two dolphin pots, a coffee mug, a plate set, four pillowcases, two green dresses, four jean dresses, two pairs of skin-tight jeans and US$30.
By the time Lignet returned home, her house looked like it had been hit by a moving company.
Shocked by the disappearance of almost everything that was not nailed down, she rushed to the police and reported the matter.
Investigations quickly pointed to the neighbour next door.
Prisca was arrested but the court heard that none of the stolen items were recovered, leaving Lignet counting her losses and locking her doors.
