of Marupande Village, Mazhaka 1 in Tengwe, pleaded guilty to the charges when he was arraigned before Mr Robson Finsin last last week.
Mr Finsin remanded Masanga in custody to May 8 for sentence.
The court heard that on April 19 this year, Masanga’s village head, Evans Karigaduri tasked him to take to Tengwe Police Station, Edmore Kapofu (32) who was suspected of having attempted to rape a 10-year old girl.
Instead of taking the suspect to the police station in the company of the girl’s parents as advised by Karigaduri, Masanga took them to his home.
There he misrepresented to the girl’s parents that Constable Hove of Tengwe Police Station had ordered him to preside over the case.
He claimed it was a civil case.
He told them there was no need of taking it to the police since it could be solved amicably through understanding.
Masanga reportedly told the girl’s parents that the case was quite trivial since there was no penetration on the girl.
Masanga ruled that the case was supposed to be settled out of court and they had to settle it at his homestead.
Through his arbitration powers, Masanga forced the minor’s parents to accept compensation in the form of a cow and 12 buckets of maize from Kapofu.
Although the parents of the minor did not voice any concern over the manner in which the case was handled by Masanga, it did not go down well with fellow villagers
who alerted the police for proper administration of justice.
Masanga was arrested by Tengwe police two days later.
Mr Webster Dimingo prosecuted.
